1. The built-in flash on my canon 60d and all built-in flashes for that matter are terrible. It washes out the images, and creates extremely harsh shadows. As a result I have never used it, and neither should you. Unless, however you modify it with a diffuser.

    Quick fix: Use a diffuser

    There are various flash diffusers that you can purchase for your built-in flash, and numerous diy builds on youtube. I however found them all way more complicated then they need to be, so here is what I made with supplies I found around the house.

    1. Clear tape
    2. Copy paper or cardstock
    3. Plastic card (old blockbuster, or speedway rewards card)

    The pictures are pretty self explanatory and I included a before and after pics, to help you see how easily it improves the quality. I used two pieces of paper to make it a little bit thicker. I am sure you could experiment with several different options for diffusing.
